Smart Home
& AV
The Service
Invisible technology. Effortless control.
The best smart home systems are the ones you never think about. Lights that adjust to the time of day. Blinds that lower when the sun hits the window. Music that follows you from room to room. Climate that holds exactly the temperature you want without you ever touching a thermostat. All controlled from a single interface — or nothing at all.
Melner specifies, installs, and commissions smart home and AV systems as an integrated part of the build — not as an afterthought bolted on at the end. Every cable, every rack, every controller is planned during the design phase and installed during first fix, so nothing is visible, nothing is retrofitted, and everything works from day one.
We work with the world's leading home automation and AV brands — specifying the right system for the property, the client, and the level of control they actually want. Some clients want full automation across every room. Others want a great sound system and motorised blinds. We design for both.
Critically, we install during the build — not after it. This means cable routes are concealed within walls and ceilings, equipment racks are built into joinery, and control panels sit flush with the plasterwork. The technology disappears into the architecture. That's the point.
If you can see the technology, it wasn't installed properly. The wiring, the racks, the processors — all of it should disappear into the walls. What remains is the experience.
Systems we install
Complete home intelligence across every room.
Lighting Automation
Programmable scene-based lighting with circadian rhythm adjustment. Tuneable white, RGBW accent lighting, and occupancy sensing. Keypads, touchscreens, or fully automated — lights that respond to the time of day, the room you're in, and the mood you want.
Multiroom Audio
Architectural speakers concealed in ceilings and walls, delivering room-filling sound without visible hardware. Independent zone control, streaming integration, and dedicated listening rooms with acoustic treatment where required.
Home Cinema
Dedicated cinema rooms with 4K and 8K laser projection, Dolby Atmos immersive audio, acoustic treatment, motorised screens, and automated blackout. Media rooms with concealed TVs and soundbar integration for more casual viewing.
Climate Control
Zoned HVAC integration with smart thermostats and occupancy-based scheduling. Underfloor heating, radiator control, and ventilation systems managed from a single interface. The home maintains perfect temperature without manual intervention.
Motorised Blinds & Curtains
Silent motorised blinds, curtains, and shutters triggered by time of day, light level, or manual command. Integrated with the lighting system for seamless scene control — one touch to set the room for morning, evening, or cinema.
Security & Access
HD and 4K CCTV, smart doorbells, biometric entry, video intercom, and alarm integration. Remote monitoring from your phone with real-time alerts. Discreet hardware that protects without advertising itself.
Network Infrastructure
Enterprise-grade Wi-Fi with full property coverage — no dead spots, no signal drop between floors. Hardwired CAT6A and fibre backbone, dedicated equipment racks, and managed network switches for rock-solid connectivity.
Voice & App Control
Full integration with Apple HomeKit, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa. Dedicated apps for iOS and Android. Wall-mounted touchscreens, handheld remotes, or pure voice control — whichever interface suits how you live.
EV Charging
Home electric vehicle charging points installed as part of the electrical infrastructure. Smart scheduling to charge during off-peak hours, load balancing with the property's main supply, and integration with the home energy management system.

Smart Building
Why during the build
Retrofit is a compromise. First-fix is the standard.
When smart home systems are installed during the construction programme, every cable runs inside the wall. Every speaker sits flush with the ceiling. Every control panel is recessed into the plasterwork. The equipment rack lives inside a ventilated joinery unit designed for the purpose. Nothing is visible. Nothing is added on.
When they're retrofitted after the build, cables run in surface-mounted trunking. Speakers sit in boxes on shelves. Control panels are screwed onto finished walls. The technology works — but it looks like an afterthought, because it is one.
Melner integrates smart home and AV specification into the design phase of every project. Our electricians run the cabling during first fix alongside the standard electrical installation. Our joiners build equipment cupboards and media niches into the furniture design. Our decorators finish around flush-mounted keypads and touchscreens as naturally as they finish around light switches.
The result is technology that feels native to the home — not bolted onto it. A Lutron keypad next to the front door. Invisible Bowers & Wilkins speakers in the living room ceiling. A Samsung Frame displaying art when the TV is off. A Crestron processor managing everything from a rack you'll never see.
That integration is only possible when the AV and smart home specification is part of the build from day one. It's why we insist on it.
